We have 3 mixed teams, 1 men's team, 1 ladies team and 3 doubles teams (teams made up of male or female players) who enter into the West Cumbria Badminton League each season. We also enter 3 mixed teams into the Leagues Knockout Handicap Competition called the Peeney Cup.
We are a very laid back club, who has a big social side and a lot of our members like to get together for nights out, events, parties etc. We sometimes also go to The Queens Hotel in St Bees after some club nights for a drink and take part in the weekly quiz.
We were awarded the CLUB OF THE YEAR 2015 award from BADMINTON England in March 2015 which is a massive national achievement for the club to receive. This shows that the dedication and hard work for each member eventually paid off.
Everyone is always made to feel welcome.
Marchon Badminton Club was formed in the Marchon Club, in Whitehaven. It was formerly a works social club belonging to Marchon Chemical Plant but is now independently run as a community hall. We moved through to West Lakes Academy in Egremont for a season, until we were able to move back to Whitehaven into St Benedicts School where we spent 5 seasons before moving to St Bees for the 2016/2017 season and we are continuing to play there since.
The Badminton Club has developed considerably over the last 10-20 years. The average age of the club has dropped significantly and we have a lot of dedicated players moving the club on into the future.
We aim to grow on these successes in future seasons and we hope you will be there to join us.
Anyone who is interesting in playing, whether it is for the first time, or to join a local club as an experienced player or just in the area for a few weeks or months for work, please get in touch by emailing marchon@cumbria-badminton.co.uk or contacting us through our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/marchonbadmintonclub
